On June 30th, 2023, BSI British National Standards Institute issued new versions of standards BS 1363-1:2023, BS 1363-2:2023, BS 1363-3:2023, BS 1363-4:2023 and BS 1363-5:2023. BS 1363 is a plug in Britain.
BS 1363 series standards are as follows:
★ Part 1: Specification for Wireable and Wireless 13A Fused Plug;
★ Part 2: Specification for 13A socket with or without switch;
★ Part 3: Specification of converters;
★ Part 4: Specification for 13A fuse connection device, with or without switch;
★ Part 5: Specification of adapter plug with fuse
The main changes of the new standard are as follows:
★ Covers the working frequency from 50 Hz to 60 Hz.
★ Electrical conductors made of brass need to have a minimum copper content of 58%;
★ Insulation and electrical strength tests cover indicators and internal components;
★ Increase the test requirements for bipolar switches;
★ Introduce BSEN 61058 and BSEN 60669 standards.
