On August 19, 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued an announcement to update the energy efficiency testing procedures for external adapters (EPS). The new procedure will come into effect on September 19, 2022, and will be enforced on February 15, 2023.
The main update of the external adapter DOE energy efficiency test program is as follows:
◆ Updated the definition of external adapter, excluding commercial industrial power supply;
◆ Updated the DOE application scope of EPS, excluding the main load of the internal conversion voltage is not an external adapter that supplies power to a separate terminal product, for example, the conversion voltage in the product is mainly to supply power for its own functions, including but not limited to: consumption with USB output terminals Class electronic products, lamps and lanterns with USB output;
◆ Updated the output cable requirements, use the output cable that comes with the adapter or the output cable recommended by the manufacturer for testing. If the adapter does not have an output cable and the manufacturer does not recommend it, use a 3-foot output cable for testing. ;
◆ The test methods of EPS are divided into two categories, the fifth part is the test method of non-adaptive EPS, and the sixth part is the test method of adaptive EPS;
◆ For an external adapter with multiple outputs of a single voltage, the coefficient D is calculated with reference to the test method of the built-in power supply;
◆ Added a detailed description about the non-EPS function, allowing to test after disconnecting the non-EPS function without affecting the EPS function.
